Thoughts about thoughts…

Hazelnut coffee… Business analytics… Peanut M&Ms… Star Wars trailer… Eggs and sausage… Networking opportunity… Passover Seder… Disc Golf… Hand lotion… Coffee again…

Does this sound totally random and out of nowhere? That’s because it is… these are the topics that went through my mind over the last 60 seconds.

And before you get laugh too hard or try and figure out what’s going on in my head, here’s a thought: when is the last time that you’ve taken the time to think about what you’re thinking about?

Most days, we simply let our minds wander and we normally don’t “pay it any mind” or consider where it goes. We even have phrases to describe the mysteries of our thought life – “don’t give him any mind” or “a penny for your thoughts?” will come into conversation, but that doesn’t mean that we are actually stopping to give thought to our thoughts.

On a previous blog, I mentioned the principle, how the Inputs you choose will create your Thinking, and your Thinking creates the Actions you take, which ultimately will create the culminating results. One would think that with such a powerful tool that every one of us has the capability to wield, we would take care to hone it and learn how to control it. But instead what we see in culture today is the apathy that comes from a people who have given up control. It’s almost like we have handed the remote control of our lives – which would be our minds – up to popular media, sports, and entertainment.

So allow me to provide a question for pondering: Who is in control of your mind? If there was an input cord coming out of your mind, who is on the other end? And a question with a more dangerous answer: when is the last time you’ve considered who is on the other end?

We are in a voluntarily brain-washed society, where through our money and through our time, we have “plugged in to the Matrix” where we wonder where our money goes, we wonder where our time goes, and we wonder where the stress comes from.

May I suggest that we take back the remote control… How do we do that? We will cover that in my next few blog conversations, but for now…

Step #1 – think about what you’re thinking about.

And join our conversation.
